Birth of An Assassin
By Rik Stone
Silver Publishing, 2013
Young Jez Kornfeld lives in Post WWII Soviet Russia. He's always longed to be a soldier in the Red Army. He finally gets his chance rising though the ranks as the years go by. When he's given the order to disperse and arrest Jewish protestors in Red Square- he never imagined he'd find his sisters there. He then plans to get them out of the country safely never knowing he's being watched and set off events that threaten his life.
I found the novel to be a little tedious and slow at first. But once the action is ramped up and Jez turns into an avenger it was an action packed thrill ride. The author obviously did his research and Jez is a sympathetic character. If you like history and politics in your thrillers then I recommend this book. It's the first in a series and I think it's gonna be a good one.
Rik Stone grew up poor in 1950s North East England. He left school at 15 to work in the local ship yards and later earned a Bsc degree in mathematics and computing. He retired at 50 and then began writing. Birth of An Assassin is his first novel.
